How can we help?
Getting started
Why does Roster exist?
Roster is a roster of designers looking for work, and the goal is simple: get them hired. Share your work, get found, and connect with the people hiring.
How do I get an invite?
Join the waitlist with your name, email, and a link to your work, then confirm your email from the message we send (check your spam folder if you don't see it). We review signups and send invites in batches. Each member gets one invite to share with a designer they trust. Designers of every level and discipline are welcome.
What if I didn't get the confirmation email?
First check your spam or junk folder, and add hello@roster.design to your contacts. If it's not there after a few minutes, join the waitlist again with the same email and we'll send it once more (you can ask once an hour). Still nothing? Make sure the address has no typos, or contact us at hello@roster.design.
Why is it invite-only?
To keep it real. Invites let us keep out spam, bots, and AI-generated fake profiles. It isn't about being exclusive. If you're a real designer, you belong here.
Is Roster free?
Yes. Roster is free for designers, and joining, sharing your work, and being found all stay free. Down the road we may add optional extras, like featured placement, and we'll always label them clearly.
How do I sign in?
There are no passwords. Enter your email on the sign-in page and we'll email you a six-digit code. Type it in and you're signed in. The code works once and expires in 10 minutes, and on an iPhone you can usually fill it in straight from the Mail suggestion above your keyboard. If it doesn't arrive, check spam and ask for a new one.
For designers
What can I put on my profile?
Your name, photo, and a short bio, up to five skills (with one marked as your main), your years of experience, where you are, and whether you're open to full time, part time, or contract work and remote. Then add your projects: each one has a title, a lead image, a description, more images if you like, and its own page you can share.
How do I post my work?
Open Your posts from the menu and tap New post. Each project needs a title and at least one image, and you can add a description, skills, and more images. Images are shown at 4:3 (best at 1600 × 1200 pixels, at least 480 on each side). Other shapes are cropped from the center, so keep the important part in the middle, and the previews show what will be kept. Every project gets its own page you can share.
Who can see my profile?
Your page is public by default, so anyone can see your work. You can make it private or take yourself off the homepage any time in your profile settings. Your email address is never shown. The Roster, our directory of designers you can filter by skills, experience, and location, is members-only: you have to be signed in to see it, and it's hidden from search engines.
Can I follow other designers?
Yes. Tap Follow on a designer's profile, and their new projects show up on your Following page. You'll see a note in the app when someone follows you or likes a project, and we'll email you about new followers (never about likes). You can turn the emails off, and you can remove any follower.
How do recruiters reach me?
We approve every recruiter by hand, and they get a private account to browse The Roster. They never see your email address. A recruiter can send you a short request about a role, and you decide whether to accept. Accepting shares your email with them, and declining tells them nothing more. On your profile screen you'll see how many recruiters have looked at your profile, though never who.
Where are the jobs, and how do I connect?
Open roles are on the jobs board (find Jobs in the top bar and your menu), which anyone can read. Apply takes you to the employer's own application page. A few roles are marked Curated by Roster: we found them and think they're worth a look, so they only have Apply, not Connect. As a member you can also tap Connect to send the hiring team a short note and a link to your profile. They can accept, decline, or ignore it, and they only see your email if they accept. You can send 5 job connects a month, resetting on the 1st. A closed job can't take new connections.
How do Featured and Popular work?
A few designers and projects are featured at the top with an orange badge. We pick them by hand. Everyone else is just below, and you can sort The Roster by most popular (most followers), newest, or experience.
What does "Hired" mean?
Getting hired is the whole point, so we celebrate it. When you land a role, tap I got hired on your profile screen. You'll get a Hired badge (and can say where you landed), and the people who follow you get a note to congratulate you. You can switch back to looking at any time.
For recruiters
How do I get a recruiter account?
Join the waitlist and choose I'm hiring. We approve every recruiter by hand, then email an invite that sets up your private account. Check your company and work email first, since that's what we use to verify you.
How do I post a job?
Open Your jobs in your menu and tap Post a job. Add the title, company, location, pay if you like, a description, and the link where designers apply (Greenhouse, Lever, Indeed, or your own page). In the description, wrap a heading in **double stars** to make it bold, and start a line with a dash for a bullet. Links in the text aren't clickable, so designers apply through your apply link. Choose how long it stays open: 30, 60, or 90 days. We take a quick look at each new job before it goes live, usually within a day, to keep the board free of spam. Not ready yet? Tap Save draft and finish later. Drafts are private, and the clock on your 30, 60, or 90 days only starts when you post. Jobs are free to post through December 31, 2026, and everyone can see them, signed in or not.
What happens when a designer connects about my job?
You get a note and a link to their profile, in the bell and by email. Look around, then accept or decline. Accepting shares your email with them, and they get yours. If you ignore it, nothing happens. You can also close a job any time, which stops new applications and connections but keeps it visible, or delete it for good.
How do I contact a designer?
Tap Connect on a designer's card in The Roster or on their profile, and write a short note about the role. If they accept, you'll each see the other's email and you can reply from your own inbox.
How many designers can I contact?
Free accounts can send 5 new requests a month. Roster Plus, coming soon, will raise that to 50. There's also a limit on how many new requests one designer can receive each month, so nobody's inbox gets flooded.
Why was my request declined, or why no reply?
Designers decide whether to reply, and a decline doesn't come with a reason. You can send one request per designer, so make it count: say who you are, what the role is, and why their work caught your eye.
What can designers see about me?
They see your name, company, and note on a request. They never see which recruiters viewed their profile, only a count. Your email stays private until a designer accepts your request.
How do I find the right designers?
The Roster is members-only and searchable by name, skill, city, and keyword. Filter by experience, country, work type, and remote, and switch to Work to browse projects and find designers by what they've made.
Account and privacy
Can I change my username or delete my account?
You can change your username once, from your profile screen. You can also delete your account and all your data at any time from the bottom of your profile screen. It takes effect right away, and it can't be undone.
Nothing matches that. Try another word, or email hello@roster.design.
Still stuck? Email hello@roster.design and a person will answer.
